day
25 August 2008 – The digital radio TETRA
network provided by EADS Defence & Security
played a vital role in the Grand Beijing
Olympic Games, the world's biggest sports
event that has just dropped the curtain.
The Beijing JustTop digital radio network
(Beijing Government Shared TETRA network)
mainly served the government and municipal
committee, public security officers (such as
traffic police and armed police), first-aid
medical workers, urban management
organizations, water conservancy departments
and the Beijing Organising Committee of the
Olympic Games (BOCOG) staff.
The Beijing JustTop Network is the largest
TETRA network in Asia and the largest city
wide TETRA network in the world. It supplied
seamless and secure radio communications
services for all Olympic venues (competition
and non-competition venues as well as
training ones), all Olympic-related
organizations, and all main traffic arteries
in the city of Beijing and environs. Its
various client-oriented applications and
services make it one of the most advanced
TETRA networks on earth.
Nearly 90,000 users have employed the
Beijing JustTop network to guarantee
successful and safe running of the Games.
The network is operated by Beijing JustTop
Network Communications, Ltd., for whom EADS
Defence & Security is the key partner and
TETRA solution provider.
During the opening ceremony of the Olympic
Games, the network was in full swing,
ensuring excellent communications for all.
It played an important role in communication
command and control during the fireworks and
entertainment portions of the ceremony,
safeguarding the coordination between each
part of the show. The power of the network
was demonstrated by its smooth and seamless
operation during the ceremony, with more
than 1,500,000 calls made that day.
“Such a grand sports event requires the best
communication flow. That is why we required
utmost reliability and efficiency from our
choice of TETRA digital radio network. It is
proven that the network and the technical
support provided by EADS Defence & Security
is outstanding, and this has played a vital
role in the communication and event
management of the Beijing Olympic Games“,
Said Pan Feng, director of Beijing Municipal
network management centre.
"An event of such importance demands a
network that enables rapid, effective
communication and cooperation between
public security officers,
police, fire brigade and first-aid medical
workers,"
explains Su Zhenze, President of Beijing
JustTop Network Communications Ltd. "The
TETRA communication system provided by EADS
Defence & Security is the answer. And to be
prepared for the high risks associated with
the event, EADS Secure networks put together
an experienced service team as support for
Beijing JustTop. The all-round cooperation
between both sides secured the smoothness of
network operations."
Jean-Marc Nasr, President, EADS Secure
Networks, said: “Our teams in several
countries have prepared a perfect response
to the high risks and challenges associated
with this high-profile event viewed by
millions of people around the globe. Our
dedicated service has meant that the users
have been able to focus on their own core
mission.
We are honoured to have played a part in the
smooth running of the Games.”
EADS
Defence & Security has also equipped the
Beijing Capital International Airport with a
TETRA network specially designed to meet the
needs for flawless logistic operations
during the games. The system coverage spans
from the exterior of the airport to the
interior of Terminals 1, 2 and 3, as well as
over the major office buildings. It
primarily serves the airlines and ground
service departments.
Thanks to its high reliability and security,
the TETRA network has successfully
safeguarded the goods transportation during
the Games as well as the arrivals and
departures of BOGOC staff, athletes, and
other passengers from all over the world.
A third EADS Defence & Security -supplied
network serves the public security in
Tianjin, and a fourth in Hong Kong ensured
the secure communications during the Olympic
equestrian events.
