Campbell County Boosts 9-1-1 Capabilities With New Call Center Technology
Progressive, Web-Based Solution to Help Gillette Police Department and Campbell County Sherriff’s Office Locate Incidents, Dispatch Personnel

Temecula, CA — Campbell County, Wyoming recently launched a cutting edge Internet Protocol (IP)-based 9-1-1 call processing solution, allowing officials to more efficiently receive calls, identify locations and dispatch personnel to the county’s 50,000 residents. The new system was developed for Gillette Police Department (PD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office through a partnership between PlantCML, North America’s leader in crisis communications and response, and Qwest Communications, the area’s leading voice and data provider.

“PlantCML has provided us with an innovative system allowing Campbell County Sheriff’s and Gillette PD to work together seamlessly,” said Lisa Barthel communications coordinator for Gillette PD. “We had very specific system requirements and PlantCML was able to find a solution for each of our needs. For example, we requested a single system with redundancy in separate locations and PlantCML has essentially combined our call centers even though we operate in different buildings. This allows us to better serve our residents.”

The backbone of the new 9-1-1 system is PlantCML’s Sentinel® Patriot® product, an emergency call processing solution that runs on Qwest’s voice and data IP network. Sentinel Patriot connects the Campbell County 9-1-1 center to the Gillette PD center through the IP network, enabling dispatchers to quickly share information and work together more effectively. It boasts fault-tolerant redundancy, Automatic Call Distribution (ACD), and other features focused on strengthening the speed and reliability of the 9-1-1 call process.

“Sentinel Patriot has given us the flexibility we need to ensure the safety of the residents of Campbell County,” said Chris Bingham, communications supervisor for Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. “Not only can our call takers provide back-up support to personnel at the other location, but they can bridge calls together to immediately dispatch the appropriate response unit. Sentinel Patriot is extremely user friendly, and because it is IP-based, we will be able to add Next Generation 9-1-1 elements as we are ready.”

PlantCML and Qwest worked with Campbell County officials to install the product in June 2008, and are in the process of adding one more call position at each location. This new position will be located in the supervisor office at each location and will be used for training and back-up purposes. Both the Gillette Police Department and Campbell County Sherriff’s Office will continue to receive industry renowned technical support from PlantCML.
